But how does one achieve the shabby look? Well, it took me a while to figure it out and I am sure all of you knew this, but in case you didn't here's what you do. Find any old book that has the old looking pages. This means find the neat tea stained colored page. Doesn't matter what the book is about or the cover. I find mine at thrift stores for anywhere from a dollar to 50 cents each. Now just rip off the front and back covers and there you have it. Underneath you will find that they look like my picture. I love them and it is a cheap way to decorate and who would have known that there would one day be an attraction for cover less books?......</em></div></div></div></div>sepiadreamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17688527065838845072noreply@blogger.com24tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7244499981627006100.post-64331562323072716602010-03-10T07:00:00.000-08:002010-03-10T07:05:26.232-08:00~ Burlap Rag Wreath ~<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrHKYzCjbmsduV1BsQXTIuiXXq7hhNNPmqt5zo9Ok652FBiyFNl3VvSI1-hviwFlb1q2u3cAjPNJYGAJChY-hDARYiXZhNaYzKo8nREB2FeI0gGiE_tjE5XlvX4cxURsA4cfT0Sjj6CD0/s1600-h/DSC03936.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5447021354814721170" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrHKYzCjbmsduV1BsQXTIuiXXq7hhNNPmqt5zo9Ok652FBiyFNl3VvSI1-hviwFlb1q2u3cAjPNJYGAJChY-hDARYiXZhNaYzKo8nREB2FeI0gGiE_tjE5XlvX4cxURsA4cfT0Sjj6CD0/s400/DSC03936.JPG" /></a> " Close up of burlap texture...."<br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_PEwfR7618gtzpyj2bqldD6VbiHJWecDL3xbmY1V51D6aGjOaSHwZLmvTg99GG2dw0EWY-JIKDxCZS70Kr0kukyXQ7ITROjGsDcZGf-ZNwyyiq7LRgLvG4lRGt86YFNf8p3lVxhhYjJM/s1600-h/DSC03933.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5447021350164396082" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_PEwfR7618gtzpyj2bqldD6VbiHJWecDL3xbmY1V51D6aGjOaSHwZLmvTg99GG2dw0EWY-JIKDxCZS70Kr0kukyXQ7ITROjGsDcZGf-ZNwyyiq7LRgLvG4lRGt86YFNf8p3lVxhhYjJM/s400/DSC03933.JPG" /></a> " Here it is......."<br /><br /><div><em>Ok, it may look neat but what a mess! Get the canvas at Michael's for 40-50% off with theirs sales. Any size you choose. In my case, I used a rubber stamp on a transparency sheet, which I then got out the old projector. Backed up the projector as far as it would reach since the rubber stamp was about 2" in size. I love French inspired things so I thought why not Marie Antoinette and some sort of French script. I added the Paris at the bottom because my daughter thought the canvas was too scarce. Recently I have seen poster looking canvas prints that are large in size, but not in content. I think it makes a statement-a French one I hope. I painted the canvas with my furniture paint (choose whatever paint you want). Then I proceeded to trace the figure and when I finished I touched it up a bit here and there filling in more dark areas to look a little bit more filled out. It took about 35 minutes-not bad for a large project that didn't end up taking a large amount of time to complete....</em></div></div></div>sepiadreamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17688527065838845072noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7244499981627006100.post-42504935112812063202009-10-30T15:32:00.000-07:002009-10-30T15:38:49.891-07:00~ Shabby Time Piece ~<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirD1vUys94jhDRV3_4Cc2t4fFQSP5oxIlrQVhr5WFwKDvvZilpv0NJ0ut_xpCoH8ElFAUAxoQR9OisUGNgYnF5kwhdjbEkHVTHtYaY5DnQHyDu_ZHH2j-fub2K3Yeb0HR77MQOEhpOCbc/s1600-h/DSC02749.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5398526079038190610" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirD1vUys94jhDRV3_4Cc2t4fFQSP5oxIlrQVhr5WFwKDvvZilpv0NJ0ut_xpCoH8ElFAUAxoQR9OisUGNgYnF5kwhdjbEkHVTHtYaY5DnQHyDu_ZHH2j-fub2K3Yeb0HR77MQOEhpOCbc/s400/DSC02749.JPG" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhwZ-8objWLGBWi4DrR-EJcaJXpXNwMXkUpcc_zYgWnx3nnnyiMvmJa95p1e72hKGjdDWpXhptYUzaIRkbAPsgLfoyt2_BD7ABFUQGyEzBLcaMvW0w7u_MGRF_nmzEZUYPRjKKV_z2Xeg/s1600-h/DSC02748.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5398526069971882274" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhwZ-8objWLGBWi4DrR-EJcaJXpXNwMXkUpcc_zYgWnx3nnnyiMvmJa95p1e72hKGjdDWpXhptYUzaIRkbAPsgLfoyt2_BD7ABFUQGyEzBLcaMvW0w7u_MGRF_nmzEZUYPRjKKV_z2Xeg/s400/DSC02748.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><div><em>I love the old iron ornate clocks that they had along time ago. Her name is Kristen, and although she is not making jewelry that much any more, you can understand why I got hooked. She has the wonderful ability to match old pieces of jewelry together and create one of a kind pieces with her artistry. I especially love the lady photo where she has embellished her, and so lovingly finished the back of the necklace as well. Her specialty used to be creating awesome necklaces out of old watch cases. Imagine how much work has gone into these pieces, not to mention the fact that she had to come up with these ideas herself. I admire her and her work. The rustier the better. Well, here is an idea that I am sure everyone has seen, but maybe not in this fashion. Gutting out the old watches is most likely not very difficult-I must confess I have never done it before-but in order to make these type of jewelry pieces the watches must be empty. Old tin types work well ,as well as, old cabinet photos that have been copied and shrunk. Some people pour a lacquer type glaze over their artwork and when it is dry you have a small masterpiece that is one of a kind. The watch with the man's face is a pin back watch. The watch that is the necklace is made from an old Rosary chain and then another old necklace appears to be added to it. I got these on Ebay years ago and adore them. Like I said before there are so many talented people out there-wish I had the stamina to create jewelry or to simply bead things for that matter.....</em></div></div>sepiadreamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17688527065838845072noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7244499981627006100.post-79816198987262810302009-09-30T06:55:00.000-07:002009-09-30T07:10:41.855-07:00~ Let's Get Started .....~<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGvsQlA1qDhyphenhyphenn4AqtfbJFsZRr_QZhZy81P3wcjc5Hyt_lnMjyoXkhd3zrMGPerKrPRzUKXWjVLZWw9gBeX6-j6vN-JsxgQBo9CiLqq2u2ldANEpS9kZ35iXeyw8dbeogzyblTrrQEzfc8/s1600-h/DSC02427.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5387262435583726034" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGvsQlA1qDhyphenhyphenn4AqtfbJFsZRr_QZhZy81P3wcjc5Hyt_lnMjyoXkhd3zrMGPerKrPRzUKXWjVLZWw9gBeX6-j6vN-JsxgQBo9CiLqq2u2ldANEpS9kZ35iXeyw8dbeogzyblTrrQEzfc8/s400/DSC02427.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzWo024sai-4H90P9BCx950wfxixHJOM-jT0LnJCCWbRrWOCjHwcwMMvZQDtCVpZ1LWiNWZqi2uWPOSTR4LkDALF42kG-w4aWNabZE7SRKKZ9alV2KzA8mK9tjnVe9B1O8PmWsjSSHFfs/s1600-h/DSC02370.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5387262426215636706" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 300px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzWo024sai-4H90P9BCx950wfxixHJOM-jT0LnJCCWbRrWOCjHwcwMMvZQDtCVpZ1LWiNWZqi2uWPOSTR4LkDALF42kG-w4aWNabZE7SRKKZ9alV2KzA8mK9tjnVe9B1O8PmWsjSSHFfs/s400/DSC02370.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitFr9VrNW6gJSDFS2KHX2sL12vrCGleImiNMPs-kJbDzAS42Tt1y2nU-vLZlDy6Jh8Yd1_YHCAhAE9-rA_2vHr03DFoN6YXCmYcuLtCYk5T7xy-kelYBWxpsRcYQnNUviLgSvvs_v9hYw/s1600-h/DSC02430.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5387262418099822658" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 300px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitFr9VrNW6gJSDFS2KHX2sL12vrCGleImiNMPs-kJbDzAS42Tt1y2nU-vLZlDy6Jh8Yd1_YHCAhAE9-rA_2vHr03DFoN6YXCmYcuLtCYk5T7xy-kelYBWxpsRcYQnNUviLgSvvs_v9hYw/s400/DSC02430.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div><em>Since Christmas is slowly approaching I thought that vintage skates would be appropriate. I have seen people create wreaths with them, or hang them on a fireplace mantel. I would simply make them part of a centerpiece with fake snow and old silver glass ball ornaments. Maybe setting them all upon an old tarnished silver tray? I have not started decorating yet for Christmas but I thought I would throw out a few suggestions before we got there. Another project I love is what Felicia aka "Bountiful" located at Lone Star Antiques does with pillows. I have these featured on my header for Dream in Cream. She has the uncanny ability to create beautiful objects out of discards. Not only are her pillows to die for, but everything she makes is snatched up in seconds the minute she comes in to redo her booth. Such talent amazes me. Her pillows can be purchased and shipped if you are interested. They change often and come in a variety of shapes....I have bought several things from her and will be featuring them periodically. I also wanted to show a picture of the old apple basket that I purchased at Lone Star last week for $12.00. I painted with a white paint-randomly here and there-so it would not look new. I have placed it on the top of my kitchen cupboards as a beginning to finally start decorating my newly painted kitchen.
